Can anyone think of a work around for this?, I cannot find an option other than rendering first.

I could be wrong but I think the only way is to render the file and analyze it.
This is the ONE thing that I think Studio One does better than WaveLab. In a Studio One mastering project you can press a button for a song/clip and it will offline analyze the loudness of it both pre and post FX.

Yes, it would be nice to have analysis without having to render first - even with single wave files.
