Welcome to WaveLab 10!

Post by TimoWildenhain » Tue Oct 15, 2019 12:00 pm

Dear forum-members,

I’m happy to announce the availability of WaveLab 10, the major release of the world’s most popular mastering and audio refinement platform.
Our team has been working to capacity to make this version a true milestone release. WaveLab 10 comes with the broadest range of new features and improvements, among them major enhancements, that have ever been released in it's product history:

Reference track A/B
Allows you to add a reference audio file and switch playback between the reference track and the montage tracks

Video support
Video file playback in the Audio Montage, allowing you to arrange, edit and process the audio of a video

Extended external effects support
Using a combination of outputs (sends) and inputs (returns) on your audio hardware, you can use external effects
in the Audio Montage as Clip, Track and Output effects.

External Editor support
You can now integrate other audio editors (like SpectraLayers or iZotope RX) into your WaveLab workflow!

Undo/Redo history for Audio Editor
Available in the Audio Montage and — for the first time — the Audio Editor workspaces, both have their own independent undo/redo log.

Montage Inspector
The handling of plug-ins and corresponding functionality — like channel processing, signal routing, loading effect etc.
is now streamlined and consistent between the Master Section and the new Montage Inspector.

Audio Montage track list overhaul
The different track types (Audio, Reference and Video) have a new track header design with dedicated controls for each track type.

Live Input Stream recording
WaveLab 10 allows you to record and render live input streams through the Master Section and the inserted plug-in chain.

Audio Montage Inline Editing
Let's you open a clip range in the Waveform or Spectrum Editor and edit it non-destructively.

Enhanced Preview in File Browser
The File Browser window and the Audio Files File Browser now allow you to jump to a specific play position inside a preview file.

New audio settings and routing options
WaveLab 10 comprises an enhanced audio I/O routing system.

Performance monitor
WaveLab 10 comes with a new performance monitoring meter showing the average audio processing load of your WaveLab session.

New plug-ins
Frequency EQ, REVelation Reverb and Magneto 2 have been added to the WaveLab plug-in feature set.

Multitrack Recording
Let's you record multiple track at once in the Audio Montage.

Marker support
Now available for imports from XML file.

Master Section enhancements
Increased amount of effects and playback processing slots.

Rendering enhancements
Real-time rendering with audition.

More improvements
Improved third-party VST plug-in support, improved playback performance, Marker List and CD List follow playback indicator

Cool thanks.

Do you think we could get

- more global master slots at some point? I know montage has unlimited just would be nice in the global master section to have a few more slots.

- multi cd burner support (burn more cds at once)

- auto save for audio editor?

- and "render all" button for a tab, for example, all files within 1 tab, you can select "render all" to render all files without having to go through them 1 by 1.

Hmmm, there are some cool additions like the extended external editor support or the ability to record through the master chain but overall I have to say that the feature list doesn't sound like a version 10 (had the same problem with Cubase Pro 10 though). I don't see any major new addition here and stuff like plug-in automation is still missing?!?
Sorry, as much as I love WaveLab but I'm a little underwhelmed by this update.
Best,
Klaus

I don't see any major new addition here
What about:

* video support
* The Reference track is a major feature for Mastering
* Inline Clip Editing with WaveLab editor or External Editor.

I didn't want to critisize your fantastic work, PG, and I guess it also strongly depends on the personal use cases (for example I don't need video support) but I think plug-in automation is the one feature that so many people want to see in WaveLab and it is the one (and very strong) advantage that Adobe Audition has over WaveLab IMO.
Best,
Klaus

Am I correct in thinking we can do stem mastering now with hardware insets across multiple tracks inside Montage? If so that's great because I can switch from Cubase to Wavelab now for my primary mastering tool.

It depends on your exact workflow, but normally, yes.

Don't forget to check the Reference track feature, which has additional hardware routing options (eg. send the track output to some external gear and monitor/record the result on another montage track).

No multichannel files still. I guess it'll soon be time to give up hope.

Oh, and the montage output effects in a four-channel montage (for instance) only accepts two-channel plugins, and reduces the output to two channels - even when using Steinberg effects such as gain (which I'm pretty sure worked in 9.5).

It's a shame that track routing is no longer immediately visible - means that simple errors are likely to be harder to catch. It's surprising that track routing in an existing montage isn't honoured on import - I had to put it in again. Audio interface channel settings weren't imported either.

Editing with video might be of interest to me - I'll need to see what it handles, though.

Does the realtime rendering mean there is a way in the audio editor to see what the effects in the master section are doing to the waveform without rendering down?

Thanks, PG! Just updated -- looking forward to the video engine as the main feature for me! Hope it works and hope it allows audio replacement! :-) Reference track feature also will be used a lot! Thank you! Please add multichannel support though soon -- this is an ongoing request for a long time.

It does not, but it should hopefully be added in a 10.x update.

Not sure what you mean, because "see the effects in the master section is doing without rendering down" is what playback does.

Great to hear -- yes, please, for the love of all the audio gods, please add audio replacement for video. This will save so much time. Really, really need this. And please, whatever you do, if at all possible, make it a true audio replacement, not just the current re-render approach of Nuendo 10.2. I know you guys share the video engine, but whatever you can do to influence the video team to continue development and make true audio replacement the ultimate goal, with no re-rendering of the video, would be fantastic.
