Can I use Cubase 8.5 with a 9.5 license?

Post by KNude » Sat Dec 02, 2017 12:47 am

Hi,

I'm currently using Cubase 7. I'd like to upgrade to Cubase 8.5, but as it is not officially available anymore I'm forced to update all the way to 9.5. My question is, can I activate Cubase 9.5 but use 8.5 instead with the same license? If so, are the 8.5 install files available for download from somewhere?

Thanks!

- K.

Yes. You can use 8.5 with a 9.5 license. I am not sure where to get the files from.
Cubase Pro 9.0.30. Core-i7 7700HQ, 16GB RAM, Windows 10. UR44. M-Audio Axiom Pro 61. Komplete 11 Ultimate. Jamstix 3.6.5. and Jamstix 4.0. Absolute VST3. 418 Carrier Landings.

Why would you use 8.5? If you want to use 32 bit plugins just use jBridge and it will run them in Cubase 9.5 better than Cubase 8.5 can. If you're on Mac, 32 Lives is also an option.
;)

Cubase Pro and Wavelab Pro (latest), Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, MSI Z87-G45 GAMING, i5 4690k, GeForce GTX 760, almost every Steinberg plugin and expansion, Trilian, Komplete 10, etc etc etc etc

OK. Thanks for the info.

Yes, 32 bit plugins are one reason I'm hesitant about upgrading to 9.5. Another reason is that I can't update my OS to Sierra because of my hardware (no drivers) and I've heard that 8.5 works better under Yosemite than 9.5. Don't know if that's really true, but I'm thinking of trying out 9.5 first and if I notice any problems I'd downgrade to 8.5.

On another note, I've been taking a Pro Tools course during the past few months and have not yet found a reason to switch over from Cubase. Even the old 7.0 that I have beats the most recent Pro Tools (regular, not HD) in many aspects. I will have to use PT for a bit longer to come to a final conclusion, but at least for now I like Cubase a lot better.
