9.5 upgrade

Post by stephenuk » Thu Nov 16, 2017 7:55 pm

Poor show I upgraded from pro 8 to pro 9 and paid £161 and activated it on the 2nd of September then Steinberg release an update a month later expecting me to be another £60 however upgrading from 8 to 9.5 is £171 great way to treat your loyal customers

2nd September to 15th November is two and half months surely?

The date of this release is not unexpected either, Cubase has been updated before the end of the year for several years.

2 months or 6 months whatever is pretty unreasonable expecting to pay for an upgrade in such a short space of time. Maybe £10 to fall inline with upgrading from 8 to 9.5 which i paid £161 from 8 to 9 but now from 8 to 9.5 is £171 is a bit of a shambles and rip off. They should be offering it at £10 for pro 9 users not £60. The time frame is far too short and unfair. So what should people do. Buy cubase and decide not to activate it till then end of the year is just ridiculous.

If they released it in December like they always do you would miss the grace period by over a month and a half (!!).

You're basically begging for them to make the grace period last the entire second half of the year. Now THAT'S ridiculous. Most people wouldn't buy Cubase upgrades at launch.

Paying another $60 for a massive upgrade like 9.5 is nothing.

Well they should at least get the pricing right upgrading from 9 to 9.5 is not as massive as from 8 to 9.5 but they only charge only £10 more than upgrading from 8 to 9. Obviously making up for the years of cracked copies prior to version 6 and might I add always purchased it legit and thats how they treat their customers. Maybe not everyones as rich as you romantique and £60 is just a drop in the ocean to you but in reality in the past 3 months its been £161 and £60 in total so how does that make sense when its only £171 to upgrade from version 8 to 9.5.

....it's £51 not £60 (unless they've added an extra £9 just for you) and no-one makes you upgrade.

Sorry £51 my bad. Still the pricing is totally wrong. If it was £161 to upgrade from pro 8 to pro 9 then surely it should only be £10 from pro 9 to 9.5 if upgrading from 8 to 9.5 is £171. Steinberg always seem to give the crappest deal to the most recent version and not the oldest when working out the ratio between total spent up to the most up to date version. Ill just have to remember to buy cubase 10 in september 2018 and not activate it until november 2018 makes total sense when you want to get using the latest version not. Maybe Steinberg will stop being scrooges on black friday 24th november holding baited breath.

There is an announcement that
The Cubase Pro 9.5, Cubase Artist 9.5 and Cubase Elements 9.5 full retail versions are now available from resellers and through the Steinberg Online Shop.
However when i went to https://www.steinberg.net/en/shop/cubase.html and clicked on buy Cubase Elements 9.5 there was a message :

We're sorry!
The product you have selected is not available.
And so the message

Cubase 9.5 is now available

I'm in the same boat, Stephen. I activated on Sep 17 and there isn't a grace upon grace period. LOL. Second time this happened. The first time, Steinberg introduced track versions in the .5 release. I could really have used track versions, because Pro Tools had just introduced comp tracks at the time, and I would have loved to use a similar feature.

However, this time, I reviewed most of the new 9.5 features, and I don't think there's anything I'd really be missing. I mean, the big deals are the meter bar on the right hand side, and the configurable metronome. Not worth the extra $60/£60. I guess I know now for best value, wait until Nov/Dec to get the 10.5 upgrade. I should have learned my lesson.

On another related topic: Has Steinberg published a feature comparison table between 9 Pro and 9.5 Pro for a real comparison of what's missing?

It's just Steinberg don't give a s*** about their customers or even listen to them because if they did then you think by now they would have realised and changed this stupid pricing and grace period strategy. A grace period of 1 month is a joke it should be at least for 6 months for people who have bought the most recent version in that time frame.

They absolutely do listen to their customers, otherwise people wouldn't be so happy with Cubase 9.5. What they don't listen to is moaning. A grace period of 6 months every year is completely absurd and unsustainable.

Didn't you start a thread about vocal processing recently? Maybe you're just not aware (or didn't take the time to evaluate the possibilities) but curved automation, the automation range tool and direct offline processing are kind of a big deal for this kind of work.

Nope didn't start a thread on that. The point is they don't set their prices fairly in comparison to just buying the latest version to their latest upgrade they should be charging £10 from 9 to 9.5 do the math. Version 8 to 9 was £161 version 8 to 9.5 is £171. Total for me including upgrade will be £212. Just because not everyone states a point about it or (moan) does not make it right. Im sure there are millions of people who think its pretty crappy. It's like korg bringing out the korg kronos then bringing out the kronos II 6 months later but they didn't they allowed people to have a reasonable amount of time of use, 4 years in fact before bringing out an upgrade. You obviously don't get it mate.

Those features are great, but not major improvements that I couldn’t wait until next year to buy. ;-)

I hope we can get something similar in Canada. I’ll have to contact the head office and cite this thread.

I got trigger happy when I bought the Absolute 3 VST bundle and added the 9.5 update to my order. I hope I get time to use the whole set!
