Grace Period - Am I eligible for a free Cubase update?

Post by Ed Doll » Wed Dec 07, 2016 11:29 am

Dear customers,

Please find all the necessary information on whether you are eligible for a free grace period update to Cubase Pro/Artist/Elements 9 and if so how the license (and download) can be obtained on this page.

Please note that October 26, 2016 for the start of the grace period update is a fixed date that applies to all customers! We cannot make any exceptions to this deadline.
Thank you for your understanding!

Hi - I have several education licences of V8 (Elements and Artist) that have yet to be activated (as we are currently trying to build a disk image to roll out to a music suite). How long do we have to activate them and still be eligible for the grace period update to V9 please?

For a very long time to come. Even Cubase 6 would still be grace period eligible.

Thanks - do I have to install V8 first and then update or can I use my unused V8 licence to activate a V9 install?

It's enough to activate the Cubase 8 license at this point. That will trigger the grace period license upgrade and should lead you to a page where you can download Cubase 9.

Thanks, please excuse my ignorance about this, so will I need to activate my V8 licence (presumably via the elicencer) on each individual PC that will then have V9 installed on it (as I believed that the licence is machine specific) or can I activate them all on one machine somehow?

Cheers

Yes, this has to be done individually for every USB-eLicenser but can be made on the same internet connected system with one USB-eLicenser after the other.

Hi! I am running Cubase 7.5 and an looking to update. There are some places that still sell updates to 8.5 from 7.5. If I buy an update to 8.5, will I be eligible for a free update to 9? Thanks!

Yes, that would be covered by the grace period.

Hi,
If the activation code is still unused the grace period will indeed upgrade the license to Cubase Pro 9.5 now. During that process (entering the activation code in the eLicenser Control Center) you will also be redirected to our website incl. a download link for Cubase Pro 9.5.
At the moment, the grace period itself only has a start date so you do not have to hurry.

Hi Ed! Thanks for all your great answers so far!

I just purchased Cubase Pro 9.5 Crossgrade from Sweetwater. Because I couldn't pass up the great price (crossgrade offer AND holiday offer brought it down to just $255). But I will not make music with Cubase until I build a Windows PC in late 2018 or even in 2019. So I will just save the email with the license code. The email says: "Steinberg CubaseP95CG - Cubase Pro 9.5 CG DL" and a code that it says I should register at MySteinberg under "Register eLicenser/Software--Enter Download Access Code".

I am not going to touch this code for 1-2 years. It will not be registered/activated at all. I have three worries.

1. My crossgrade serial is, as far as I've heard, the exact same as a real "Full" Cubase Pro 9.5, so it will be eligible for the 10.5/11.5 grace period when I finally register the serial in 1-2 years, right?
2. What do I do if I find out that the serial is invalid in 1-2 years? I'm going to save all Sweetwater emails just in case. I am probably worried about nothing, since you say that serials as old as Cubase 6 still work. :D
3. Since I bought this as a "download edition" serial, and won't register the serial now, I won't get any Pro 9.5 installer files. So I hope 10.5/11.5 is going to have some "full download" possibility after registration (rather than just some tiny update-installer for "the old version" which I don't have)... Your "Steinberg Download Assistant" seems like it WILL be capable of downloading the whole latest version when it's finally time to use it. I hope so?

Best regards and happy new year!

Hi Aitte,
If you do not use the activation code at all you can keep it and you will receive whatever Cubase version is current at that time including a download option. So nothing will expire and the download itself will most likely be available through the Steinberg Download Assistant at that time indeed.

Thank you so much for the answer. Really puts me at ease. I'm going to enjoy Cubase after I've finally switched to Windows! :D (And yes I know it works on Mac too but I have the inferior but adequate Logic until the switch ;)).

Hello, I have a question,
I have only recently seen the cross grade offer or I would have jumps way back, anyhow I decided to jump from sonar platinum,
I put a request in 2 days ago and I am just wait on the go ahead now to purchase, it said it could take up to 2 days for a reply, so it could be anytime now, but I am also concerned as this is my only chance to go over to Cubase Pro ( I wont use an artist version that is a step back and of no use to me ) I have Only just raised the money, as I cant work a standard job because of illness and pain etc, so this is my only chance to choose Cubase over waiting on one of the usual and regular presonus half price deals, or get a market place Daw on KVR, but I have wanted Cubase for many years but everything was tied to sonar.

So my concern as the crossgrade offer ends on the 14th not sure what time, I am in the UK, so in essence I will be cutting it fine after tomorrow and based on a time of stoppage I am not going to know, if I don't here back soon, what should I do, is their a cheap or free number or a more direct contact just in case I need to make haste with all this ? or will they consider the fact I applied on the 9th ( not sure as its not a purchase only waiting on the permission so to speak, any Suggestions or words of assurance would be greatly appreciated ???

this will probably destroy my mind set as I have so set my hopes on this, and I don't really like the other Daws, my preferred way of working is with the Edit in place type midi and sonar has this feature also, last chance really or I will have to give up my only joy in life, Tried past Daw and a friends Cubase pro 5 I think it was, anyhow I hold out hope as I have a few more days. :)

I missed the upgrade offer august 2017, I recently updated my Elements 9 to 9.5
I would rather upgrade to Artist 9.5, is there a chance there will be a discount offer again ?

Arnold, thank you for your purchase. The grace period has nothing to do with any discount offers. It may well be that other discount offers will be offered during the course of the year but there are no details available if and when this may happen.

I am going to close this topic now as it is starting to get more and more off topic.
