Nuendo freezes during autosaving

Post by anas »

As a project grows with more and more sound clips on the timeline, Nuendo autosaving causes it to hung up for about 5-10sec or so which is seriously affecting my flow..
Its about 1h long tv series sound design and mixing work with only audio samples, no vst insrtuments and a dozen of plugins running, on an 3.2Ghz OSx iMac with 4GB RAM, project folder on internal HD (with 120GV free space) and samples on external HD via USB.

project file tends to grow at around 10MB at end of each episode..

Is this normal?
thank you.

Not to say it's good that it happens..but yes this normal

I don't know what the programming architecture is underneath, but... I have watched my project folder while this happens. When autosave starts, it's writing a new file with -01 after it, when autosave is complete, that -01 file disappears. I'm guessing that instead of writing incremental changes to the .npr, it's does the whole thing. The more automation, tracks and regions you have, the longer and larger the .npr

yeah i read some posts about it and its "normal"..
this is simply ridiculous..
another let down by Steinberg..

A serious one..
You ve got a flow of ideas working fast and every 5mins u got to stop and look at that spinning ball..so *knuf* frustrating..

If Nuendo didnt crash so often i would have set autosave at longer intervals..but...

I can put up with several other bugs but this is just unacceptable and i would keep on looking for another platform that lets you work fast and creatively...

Indeed... It was fine in Cubase before the 5.5 update... N5 was born with it.

What I have done is force myself to save manually even though auto save is on. It seems every time I save, it resets the auto save, so I save in the middle os operations. It still does get me, and it still aggravates me!

It doesn't change the fact that auto-save actually gets in the way instead of protecting you behind the scene. I must have said about 1000 times out loud "C'mon Nuendo" as I circle the spinning ball around the screen with the mouse and I wait for Nuendo to respond.

I feel like you... I frequently regret instead of going Nuendo, I held on to my money and went PTHD Native but I didn't know PT Native was coming.... Sad really.

Does anyone know if this BIG HUGE ISSUE is being solved in the upcoming version?

I mean is embarrassing to be on such holds while the director of the movie asks if my computer it's obsolete!!!

Really needs to be taken care of to play a part of the real postproduction world, it's ridiculous.

Sounds like you need at least 4 more Gigs of Ram. Ram and your processor speed is what powers and moves your software and the Hard Drive stores everything you do. Maintenance your MAC and keep it clean of anything you don't need. Put all your photos, music and videos on an external hard drive. So 8 gigs of RAM is better for the intense work you're doing. I would even go as far as 16 GB if your machine can handle it and if you can afford it. Your system is stuttering because your MAC's CPU (Central processing unit) is working too hard. So make sure you save all those big projects on an external Hard Drive with 2 terabytes of space - even while you're working on the project, save it to your external hard drive and keep the MAC hard drive available for loading and storing your software. Your Mac will last a lot longer if you don't push its CPU (Central processing unit) too hard. When you're not using your MAC turn it off. This will allow your MAC to cool off so your internal hard drive and your MAC's Mother Board don't fry. This will also increase your monitor's life span and save on electricity bills. Also make sure you Back Up all your apps and files on your external 2 terabyte hard drive just in case your MAC crashes. All your work will be saved and available to you on your external hard drive. Work smart....
