Dear forum-members,

today Steinberg releases another maintenance update for Nuendo 5. The update is a free download, went through our full QA cycle and is fully supported. Please note that Nuendo 5.5.6 will be the last maintenance update for Nuendo 5.x product generation.

The update can be download here: Nuendo 5.5.6
Please note: there is no need for a separate NEK update.

Issues resolved:

PROJECT
• Export of markers as CSV file now works correctly.
• Show Automation button now works properly.
• Loading Nuendo 5.5 projects now works as expected.
• The multiple-monitor-sources button can be enabled now.
• Bus-recording now works correctly when sends are auto-connected (when the track was created).
• Changing the sample rate under Mac OS X 10.8 now works properly.
• Entries in the Undo History are now in sync with the system time.
• The action “length” in the Project’s Logical Editor can now be properly set to a fixed value.
• Recording audio onto partitions equal or larger than 1 TB now works correctly.
• Scrubbing on MIDI Parts now works correctly.
• The click no longer drops out when Control Room with more than one studio bus is active.
• When opening a Project on a different computer, the corresponding audio files are now linked correctly.
• Mono/stereo files in surround configurations now play correctly.

AUDIO
• Zoom-to-selection function in Sample Editor can be disabled now.
• If an Audio Part contains events with an Xfade outside the Part boundaries, the “Dissolve part” function no longer leads to an unresponsible state of the application.
• If the “Record File Type” is set to MXF or FLAC, freezing a track no longer leads to heavy distortion or disk overloads.
• Tagging audio files in the Mediabay now works correctly.
• Under Mac OS X 10.8 Nuendo now detects sample rates properly provided by the audio driver.
• When a certain external input is removed in VST Connections, the selected channel is no longer changed.

MIDI
• Creating a new project when importing a MIDI file now loads GM programs in HALion Sonic SE properly.
• Expression Maps with no Sound Slot entry in “Articulation 1” now works correctly.
• Logical Editor Presets in Nuendo are no longer grayed out.
• MIDI Monitor plug-in no longer displays a wrong MIDI channel.
• MIDI CC is no longer resetted when “Reset on stop” is disabled in the Preferences.
• Recording in loop mode in the Key Editor no longer renders the application unreliable.
• Using the key command for “Edit Active Part” when not focussing on the Key Editor window no longer leads to an unstable application state.
• Using the Freeze MIDI Modifier on a VOCALOID instrument track now works properly.
• When exporting and importing MIDI files, MIDI length adjustment is now working properly.

SCORE
• Beams are now handled correctly.

AUTOMATION
• VST 3 plug-in parameter automation can now be edited correctly in case the automation values are inversed.

PLUG-IN
• Creating an instrument track and undoing this operation no longer renders the application unreliable.
• Hiding a VST 2 plug-in no longer hides the VST 3 version as well.
• Loading Neo Soul Keys Presets via Nuendo 5.5 Inspector into HALion Sonic SE now works as expected.
• Nuendo EQ is now fully backward compatible.

SYNCSTATION
• Nuendo now correctly reads out the "Enable Record Command" status of the SyncStation on program start-up.

Thanks,
Timo

This is great news, thanks. There is a disclaimer about "no need for a separate NEK update". However, I never upgraded from 5.5.4, so I assume I should update to N5.5.5 AND NEK 5.5.5 before I update to N5.5.6?

Hey, thanks a bunch! *two thumbs up*

It might very well be that this is the version I'll be working with for a very long time now ...

Actually, I didn't want to wait for a response from support about upgrading from 5.5.4, so I installed 5.5.6 32-bit and 64-bit, but when I went to install the 5.5.5 NEK upgrade, it said that there was nothing to upgrade(?!!?!).

Was I supposed to upgrade 5.5.5 NEK before upgrading the main program to 5.5.6? I don't see uninstallers for 5.5.6, only 5.5... am I borked? (I hate these kinds of SNAFUs... )

Finally! Yes! Dito! Great :-)

btw - I am on 5.5.4 as well - so I am curious about that update question regarding NEK as well...

I say hang on till tomorrow, or install both the 5.5.5 installer and the 5.5.5 NEK installer BEFORE you install 5.5.6.

I'm just hoping I won't have to uninstall and reinstall 5.5 completely... IMO there really should be a 5.5.6 compatible NEK installer for anyone wanting to install 5.5 + NEK fresh and then upgrade the base install directly to 5.5.6.

I simply downloaded the update and installed it, without any other precautions. Works like a charm since early this morning now. :-)

I was on 5.5.5 (64-bit) + NEK (under Windows 7 Professional) before.

Congratulations. But I'm on 5.5.4 and I can't even find the old 5.5.5 installers anymore. I tried restoring the 5.5.4 folders from a backup and tried installing the 5.5.5 NEK but that didn't work either probably because the registry has been altered to show that the latest installed version is 5.5.6...

Looks like I'm on a forced vacation...

<- UPDATE: pending an answer I chose to launch N5.5.6 and so far it seems to be working with the older NEK...

Same here. Seems fine.

Coming from 5.5.4 I did the update today. To be sure everything goes fine I downloaded and installed N5.5.5 and Nek5.5.5 - after that I installed 5.5.6. Solid!! Was working all the day in it - after decided that N6 is not "there" yet - going back to 5.5 was like coming home.

Ah! I couldn't find the 5.5.5 installers anywhere. Where did you find them?

That makes it official: since I can't install the 5.5.5 NEK with 5.5.6, I'm currently running 5.5.6 with NEK 5.5.4. ;(

I think it should work first updating nuendo 5.5.4 to 5.5.6 and then Nek from 5.5.4 to 5.5.5

That's exactly what I did but when I went to install NEK 5.5.5 it told me there was nothing to install. But just I tried it again on my older system with the same 5.5.4 installation and that time the 5.5.5 NEK installed as it should have after installing 5.5.6.

I'm stumped! Unless it was installed by super secret ninja updaters... I wish there was a clear way to tell. There's no version number for the NEK on the about window. Now I'm starting to doubt myself... maybe I installed it in my sleep...

I'm not sure if there's any updates of significance in NEK 5.5.5. I hope not. I can't tell from the pdf what's changed from NEK 5.5.4 to 5.5.5; if I did I might be able to test the fixed items.

Eeeeek! I just did an update to 5.5.6 and Nuendo doesnt recognize my MR816csx. I've gone to the device setup/VST Audio System and it says "Device fail to open!"

Help!Has anyone encountered this? Any assistance would be deeply appreciated! :(

Mh, after intensive use of 5.5.6 I have the feeling that I need to rollback to 5.5.4. I can not specify 100% what is broken now - I try to describe:

VST Bridge:

I had a couple of times heavy issues with the vst bridge, for example all of a sudden it was not possible to open a project I was working on the day before anymore. That happened a couple of times. The project loads till a certain point. Then it stuck. Usually while loading a channel which was about 2 channels before a bridged plugin. It has nothing to do with the amount of bridged plugins. If I load an older version of the project I am often able to open it - then I can copy and paste that plugin a dozend times, it will still open. When killing the vst bridge process in task manager the project will continue loading, even if it was stuck/frozen for 10 minutes. But of course without the bridged plugins.

Opening a "damaged" project in N6 will work. Opening another, way bigger project will work.

I never had that in N5.5.4. Is something broken here?

Events on Top:

An old issue... It was fixed - but lately I have the impression that there are errors from time to time.. not really recallable though... sometimes I move an event and it drops behind others.. it can happen in lanes mode as well.. Sometimes cutting an "on top" event with alt+click will drop the event behind others, so the snipped which was lying underneath will now be on top. This can be nasty when editing drums and when you are not able to notice that, maybe because the events are looking similar.

Offline Export:

In older days it could happen that Nuendo seems to freeze when offline exporting.. Process bar is 0% and the application is not responsible. But if you wait long enough everything can be fine again, exported file is there and export window closes.. I never had this since a year or something. With 5.5.6 I have it all the time.

Well - these are the biggest issues for now - I can not confirm that 100%, these are just "old friends" from older versions but who became absent during the upgrades.. and who are saying hello again from time to time again, now in 5.5.6.

That VST Bridge thing is new to me. And this can be a real PITA.

Brandy, I wonder if you are scanning the same plugins in both 64 & 32-bit folders?
That will give the bridge a seriously hard time.....

I have a question regarding my previous posts in this thread regarding updating from 5.5.4 to 5.5.6:

I was at 5.5.4 program + NEK. I updated Nuendo with the 5.5.6 updater. Then I tried to apply the 5.5.5 NEK upgrade but the installer told me it wasn't necessary because it was already installed.

Can someone from Steinberg please explain to me why the 5.5.5 NEK update is still posted with the 5.5.6 main program update IF IT ISN'T NECESSARY?

I would appreciate a clear answer on this subject. Thanks.

My machine

I AM USING NUENDO 5 WITH MY DIGI DESIGN RACK 002. MY RACK WORKS FINE WHEN AM PLAYING GAMES, MOVIES, MUSIC PLAYER. THOUGH, WITH NUENDO, THE SOUND STARTS DISTORTING-THE SOUND DO GETS BETTER WHEN I TWEAK THE LATENCY FROM NUENDO.

I TRIED CHANGING MY RACKS DRIVER AND NUENDO WITH OLDER VERSIONS BUT STILL DOESNT WORK.

BADLY NEEDED HELP!!! :C
